Precautions for using mechanical seals in slurry pumps

2023-04-14

Mechanical seal is one of the sealing methods of slurry pump. It is suitable for harsh working conditions with high solid particle content. It is mainly used in alumina plants, flue gas desulfurization systems, power plant ash removal systems, etc. The mechanical seal adopts a barrel type, which is easy to install and the size is not affected by axial adjustment. The precautions for mechanical seals for slurry pumps are as follows:

1. The mechanical seal used in the slurry pump is generally a balanced double-end special mechanical seal, equipped with a cooling water short pipe and a pressure gauge.
2. The mechanical seal used in the slurry pump has been installed and debugged after leaving the factory, and the user does not need to debug it again.
3. The mechanical seal part has two exposed pipe joints, which are the inlet and outlet of the shaft seal water. The outlet is on the same side as the pump outlet, and the inlet is on the other side.
4. After the pump equipped with a mechanical seal is used, the shaft seal water must be connected first, and the shaft seal water can be turned off after the pump is stopped for 3 minutes.
5. When the pump with a mechanical seal and the parts of the mechanical seal are not used for a long time, the mechanical seal part should be filled with N46 mechanical oil to prevent the mechanical seal from rusting and the external rubber parts from failing.
Before connecting the pin, first test the forward rotation of the motor. If a mechanical seal is used, the cooling water must be turned on before the slurry pump can be started, otherwise the mechanical seal will be damaged and the use of the slurry pump will be affected.
